A two-tier occasional table wrapped in genuine snakeskin, in the Karl Springer idiom that defined high-end New York interiors through the 1970s and 80s. The top is a skin panel set inside a raised lip, the lower shelf repeats it, and the four splayed legs finish in brass sabots. The underside is lined in a ribbed moire fabric.

ON THE ATTRIBUTION

This piece carries no maker's plaque, and we will not call it a signed Springer. We have compared it directly against a signed and dated 1985 Springer two-tier snakeskin table: the form, the raised-lip skin top panel and the ribbed moire underside lining all match. The feet differ - ours are brass ball sabots where the signed example rides on brass casters - and the proportions differ.

It descends from a private collection whose owners furnished homes in New York and France and owned a number of Karl Springer pieces. That provenance is why we say attributed. It is not a signature, and we would rather you weigh it yourself than be told something we cannot prove. The underside lining is intact across its whole face with no plaque, no fixing holes and no adhesive ghost.
