PRODUCT DETAILS

• Material: Oil on canvas, laid on almost entirely with a palette knife — flat planes for the ground and pot, separate knife-loaded strokes for each petal and leaf

• Dimensions: Framed approx. 19 1/2 x 23 1/2 in; canvas (sight) approx. 16 x 20 in (estimated from photographs, not tape-measured)

• Color/Finish: Coral, pink and deep-rose blooms over dark green knife-cut leaves, magenta pot wrapped in white paper, ochre tabletop against a pale grey-blue wall; champagne/silvered frame moulding over a natural linen liner

• Condition: Very good — impasto intact and unflattened with no visible cleavage, cupping, loss, or craquelure; two or three small dark specks and a faint rub in the upper-right ground are minor surface dirt, not damage; light wear to the frame's gilt outer lip; not examined out of the frame, so the back and stretcher are unverified

• Era/Period: Mid-20th century, consistent with the artist's later impasto period (circa 1960s-1970s)

• Subject: Potted geraniums in a pink/magenta pot on an ochre tabletop, signed "Shunney" lower left. The signature and the subject, technique, and signing position match Nantucket painter Andrew Shunney (American, 1916-1978), but this attribution rests on a signature reading and stylistic comparison, not on documentation or outside authentication

This palette-knife still life builds a mass of coral and rose geranium blooms from flat, hard-edged knife strokes, with three fallen petals scattered on the tabletop for a touch of casual realism. The signature at lower left reads "Shunney," and the subject, handling, and signing position all line up with Nantucket painter Andrew Shunney, whose potted geraniums are his most repeated subject. The canvas shows intact, unflattened impasto with only light surface dirt, and it comes ready to hang in its original frame.
