PRODUCT DETAILS

• Brand: A Cameo Creation

• Material: Colour-printed paper reproductions under convex glass, in cast white-metal frames with a bronze/gilt finish

• Dimensions: Each frame approx. 4.4 x 4.7 in overall; oval sight approx. 2.4 x 3.2 in

• Color/Finish: Bronze/gilt-finish cast metal, worn through to grey base metal at the corners and raised ornament; brown-painted backboards

• Condition: Frames complete with intact convex glass; finish worn through at the high points; backboards toned and scuffed with one paper label torn at the edge; a sticky note remains adhered to the second backboard, partly covering its label

• Era/Period: Mid-20th century (c. 1940s-1960s) commercial production; source portraits date to the 1820s

• Provenance: Sold with a previous owner's handwritten estate note (signed "Gigi & Mom") asking that the pair be checked to see whether they are copies before parting with them — the printed verso labels and medallions confirm they are commercial reproductions, not the originals the note believed them to be

• Subject: Two Empire-era female portraits after Sir Thomas Lawrence's early 1820s originals, reproduced as mid-century commercial prints — not hand-executed miniatures and not works from Lawrence's own hand. The left frame's printed label identifies the sitter as the Countess of Blessington; the right frame's label is partly hidden under the old note and its sitter is not confirmed.

This pair keeps its original 'A Cameo Creation' verso labels and medallions along with a handwritten estate note asking that the images be checked before sale — the note is included with the lot as its own bit of family history. The convex glass and cast frames give the prints dimension and shadow that flat prints lack, and the pair displays well together on a shelf or wall grouping. Wear to the bronze finish and toning to the backboards are consistent with age and typical of this line of mid-century decorative reproductions.
