Original Signed Linocut Checkerboard High-Top Sneaker, Cain 1982, Edition 3/3
PRODUCT DETAILS
• Material: Hand-pulled relief print (linocut or woodcut) in black ink on thin, fibrous off-white paper
• Color/Finish: Black and white image; black lacquered wood frame with cream outer mat and dark inner mat with a thin warm-toned bevel liner
• Condition: Sheet is clean and bright with light overall toning consistent with age; no foxing or tears observed. Frame shows chipping and wear at the top-left and lower-left edges. Currently framed rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the artist's intended orientation.
• Era/Period: 1982, based on the pencil-dated signature
• Subject: A checkerboard-pattern high-top sneaker, abstracted, with its laces and eyelets, rubber toe cap and sole; no brand markings appear in the print; pencil-signed "Cain 82'" and numbered 3/3. Signed "Cain" only — full name not established, and no artist of this name turns up in auction price records.
This is a genuine hand-pulled relief print, cut and printed by hand rather than reproduced mechanically — chisel marks, torn white line edges, and uneven ink coverage are visible on close inspection of the surface. It is pencil-signed "Cain 82'" and numbered 3/3, meaning only three impressions were pulled from this block. The signature does not resolve to any printmaker with an auction record, so it is offered as an original, hand-pulled small-edition print rather than a named artist's work. Note that the frame currently displays the image rotated 90 degrees from its intended orientation; turning the frame counter-clockwise brings the signature and edition number to their standard positions.
