• Fur: BEAVER. Identified by the estate owner from knowledge of the garment. THE COAT CARRIES NO CONTENT LABEL — the only label reads "Made in Canada / Fabriqué au Canada" — so we are passing on the owner's identification rather than reading it off a tag, and we say so plainly.
• Used fur: yes. This is a pre-owned vintage garment, not new.
• Country of origin: Canada, per the garment's own label
• Colour: Natural brown tones. Not known to be dyed or bleached.
• Construction: Vertical let-out pelts, patterned satin lining, knitted fur trim
• Size: Large. Untagged, so measurements are available on request before you buy.
• Condition: Good. Supple, no visible tears, pelts and seams intact for the age. Please look closely at every photograph.
• Era: Mid to late 20th century
Let-out is the labour-intensive construction: each pelt is cut into narrow diagonal strips and resewn into a long tapering band, which is why the fur runs in unbroken vertical lines down the coat and hangs the way it does.
