PRODUCT DETAILS

• Material: Oil on canvas, likely canvas board, in a wood frame with brown-and-gold finish and gilt liner

• Dimensions: Framed approx. 16 x 12.25 in; sight approx. 12 x 9 in

• Color/Finish: Earth-tone palette of ochre, brown, and black with a pale sky; unglazed

• Condition: Craquelure across the whole picture, most visible in the dark passages and sky, with some raised or cupped cracks near the rooflines; surface grime and small dark spots; frame shows general rubbing and a cracked mitre on the gilt liner at the lower right

• Era/Period: Undated; style and wear suggest mid-20th century

• Subject: A multi-story stepped adobe pueblo with wooden ladders and a kiva ladder in the foreground, shown in strong side light. The stepped form suggests a Rio Grande pueblo, possibly Taos, though the exact site is not identified. The painting is signed "McDonough" at the lower right, but no Southwest painter of that name is on record; the only documented McDonough in art references is an unrelated 19th-century banknote engraver, so this is offered as an unattributed original

This oil painting sets a stepped adobe pueblo and its kiva ladders in strong afternoon light, using cast shadow and ochre highlights to build a graphic, sunlit composition. The scene has the look of a Rio Grande pueblo, possibly Taos, without a confirmed location or attributed painter. It comes ready to hang in its original wood frame, sized to fit easily into a Southwest-themed wall grouping or a smaller room.
