PRODUCT DETAILS

• Designer: Karl Springer, per the owner. Springer worked in exactly these materials and this segmented octagonal form is characteristic of his mirrors.

• Material: Lacquered goatskin or parchment over a timber carcass, inlaid brass dividing strips, bevelled mirror plate

• Dimensions: Not measured — full measurements available on request

• Colour/Finish: Warm honey to parchment tones under a clear lacquer, with brass

• Condition: Very good, with the gentle tonal variation across the panels that goatskin develops and collectors look for

• Era/Period: Late 20th century

• Other specs: Eight radiating segments around a bevelled octagonal plate

SIGNATURE NOT YET CONFIRMED. Springer normally signed or labelled the reverse and we have not had this one off the wall, so the attribution is the owner's rather than ours. Priced and offered on what it plainly is: an exceptional lacquered-goatskin octagonal mirror of the period.

This is the piece that makes a hallway. Goatskin takes light differently from anything else — the panels shift from honey to bone as you move past it, and the brass inlay draws the eye round the octagon. Interior designers hunt for these.
