Hand-Colored Etching and Aquatint Vienna Street Scene with Hotel Bristol Framed
Hand-Colored Etching and Aquatint Vienna Street Scene with Hotel Bristol Framed
PRODUCT DETAILS
• Material: Etching and aquatint on heavy wove paper, hand-coloured, with a crisp embossed plate mark; glazed in a silver/champagne-gilt moulding with a beaded inner lip
• Dimensions: Approx. 27 1/8 x 33 3/4 in framed
• Color/Finish: Hand-coloured print in a silver/champagne-gilt frame
• Condition: Paper bright and clean with no foxing, staining or tears; plate mark crisp and undamaged; colors strong and unfaded; frame shows light rubbing to the gilding
• Era/Period: Not dated on the sheet; the motor vehicles, clothing and signage depicted place the scene in the 1920s-30s
• Subject: A rainy view along the Vienna Ringstrasse showing the Hotel Bristol and the Creditanstalt bank sign beneath its canopy, with an equestrian statue and period traffic and pedestrians. Pencil-signed lower right with a compact monogram; the monogram cannot be read as a legible name and the artist is unidentified — this is not attributed to any of the known named Viennese colour etchers (Kasimir, Eidenberger, Hofmann).
This is an original hand-printed etching and aquatint, not a reproduction, identifiable by its embossed plate mark and aquatint grain, showing a recognizable Vienna Ringstrasse landmark scene with the Hotel Bristol and Creditanstalt signage. The large format and clean, unfaded coloring give it strong presence on a wall, and the frame is ready to hang as found.
