Black and White Photograph Plains Chief War Bonnet Portrait Framed Copy Print
PRODUCT DETAILS
• Material: Gelatin silver photographic print, charcoal/near-black window mat, stained oak-finish wood moulding, glazed
• Dimensions: Frame approx. 17 1/2 in W x 21 in H; image visible through mat approx. 9 1/2 x 13 in
• Color/Finish: Black and white continuous-tone print; dark mat and dark stained frame
• Condition: Good. Print is clean with good contrast, no foxing, tears or silvering. The sheet is slightly cockled along the left and lower edges under the mat, normal for a fibre-based print hinged at the top. Mat and frame are clean and modern with light rubbing on the lower rail of the frame.
• Era/Period: Later copy print, mid-to-late 20th century, made from an original photograph of about 1890-1915
• Subject: An older man in left profile wearing a full eagle-feather war bonnet with long trailer, beaded browband and ermine/hide drops, a fur-wrapped braid at the shoulder, and a pale shirt over a dark vest, holding a wide beaded blanket strip with geometric borders and floral rosettes. The regalia reads as Northern Plains, most likely Lakota. The sitter is not identified and is not sold as Sitting Bull or any other named figure; there is no signature, caption, studio imprint, negative number or blindstamp anywhere on the visible sheet.
This is a photographic print rather than a printed reproduction, with even grain and no halftone dot pattern, and it is offered plainly as a later copy of a historic image rather than a period original. The portrait carries real presence at arm's length, with strong contrast and a well-composed profile, and the dark mat and simple oak-finish frame suit a study, den or Western-themed room. At roughly 17 1/2 by 21 inches framed, it hangs as a finished piece with no additional framing cost.
